CLASS:y

CLASS:y (/klæsiː/; Hangul: 클라씨; Keullassi; Japanese:クラッシィ; Kurasshi~i) is a South Korean girl group formed through the MBC survival show My Teenage Girl. The group consists of 7 members: Hyungseo, Chaewon, Hyeju, Riwon, Jimin, Boeun and Seonyou. They made their debut on May 5, 2022, with their mini album Class Is Over.

The group is managed by M25 for their Korean promotions with a contract for 7 years and Universal Music Japan for their Japanese promotions.

Name[]

The group name 'CLASS:y' was suggested by viewers of My Teenage Girl through the website Naver and was chosen by M25.

The name indicates that the members are Classy but also keeps its relation to My Teenage Girl by having a school related theme with the inclusion of CLASS.

History[]

November 2021-February 2022: My Teenage Girl[]

On March 9, 2021, Sports Kyunghyang reported that MBC was preparing a new global audition show with PD Han Dong Chul, who had previously worked on shows like Show Me the Money, Unpretty Rapstar, Produce 101, and Sixteen.[1] On June 1, 2021, the first video teaser was released.[2] Public recruitments were held from June 1 to 30, 2021 for any female born in 2010 or earlier. A prequel season titled 등교 전 망설임 (lit. Hesitation Before Going to School) began airing on September 14, 2021. The same day, the official contestant profiles were released.

My Teenage Girl premiered on November 28, 2021, and its live finale was broadcast on February 27, 2022. Out of the show's 83 contestants, the top seven would debut as members of CLASS:y. These seven contestants were revealed to be: Won Jimin (#1), Kim Seonyou (#2), Myung Hyungseo (#3), Hong Hyeju (#4), Kim Riwon (#5), Park Boeun (#6), and finally Yoon Chaewon (#7).

March-May 2022: Debut with Class Is Over[]

On March 3, 2022, the group made their music show debut, by performing their song Surprise on M Countdown.[3] On the same day, their official social media accounts were opened.[4] Over a month later, on April 16, it was announced that CLASS:y was preparing to make their official debut sometime in May.[5] The next day, a teaser poster posted across their social medias announced that their debut mini album, Class Is Over, would be released on May 5.[6] The group held their debut showcase titled "CLASS:y Begins" on May 4.

On May 10, 2022, they announced they will make their Japanese debut with the single album "SHUT DOWN -JP Ver.-" on June 22.[7] On May 15, 2022, the album packaging was revealed for the second part of their debut mini album Lives Across, that was released on May 26.[8] On June 18, the group performed at the annual Dream Concert. On September 20, a teaser for the group's October comeback was released by media outlets.[9] The group released their second mini album Day & Night on October 26, 2022. The group also won the “Rookie of the Year” award at Asia Model Awards in 2022.[10]

2023: "TARGET"[]

On December 21, 2022, they announced they will release their second Japanese single "TARGET" on February 22.[11]
